This report summarises the findings of a literature review, a series of expert interviews and discussions within the NanoDiode consortium on current ‘needs’ for outreach and dialogue on nanotechnologies in Europe. It sets the stage for the various activities within NanoDiode by discussing procedural requirements for the effective governance of nanotechnologies in Europe, and suggesting ways to address them. The report was written as part of NanoDiode WP1 – New strategies for outreach and dialogue on nanotechnologies along the value chain.
